education
Education is central to the work of Pure Brass, and the group’s infectious enthusiasm creates a fun learning experience for children of all ages. The group has led many educational workshops of its own in different regions around Scotland, which have proven to be extremely rewarding to both the pupils and the teachers.
The quintet has many different packages that we offer to different ages and abilities in schools. We can cater to any needs that you may have, whether you would like our workshop to tie in with a particular project that the pupils are studying or you already have brass players that you would like us to work with. Whatever the situation, our repertoire and ability to arrange any music on request, means we can tailor the workshop to your needs.
The 3 education packages we have on offer cover a wide range of repertoire:
"Music through the Centuries"
This package is aimed at Secondary school level and would be suitable for students with a keen interest in, or who are studying music. The programme takes the audience through an hour long tour of how music has developed through the ages from Renaissance music such as "Past Time with Good Company" all the way up to 1970's Jazz with "Aint' Misbehavin'". We then venture into the contemporary music field with music such as "Partita on a Krakow Fanfare" which shows how offstage instruments are used for dramatic effect. This programme uses concepts from the current SQA curriculum and allows the students to experience the concepts first hand and makes them more than just words written on paper!
"Brass Olympics!"
The second of the educational packages available is the "Brass Olympics!" This takes the audience on a 40 minute world tour, hearing the music from different questions, and learning whereabouts on the Map the country is. Countries included on the tour include Ireland, Scotland, France, American, and several others. We also travel to the Olympics by train with "Clear the Line Boogie".There is also an added bonus of having a Warm Up along with the group just incase any one is nodding off on the trip! This package is aimed mainly at the younger audience from primary 1 to 5. After recently taking this show around Perthshire primary schools, members of the audience both young and old were walking out of the hall with a big grin on their face asking when we were coming back!
"A Night at the Movies!"
The third and newest package, entitled "A Night at the Movies!" includes music from all your favourite films, such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, and many, many more! Join our Young hero and her sidekick as they battle against her arch enemy to free our young, attractive heroine. Witness the sights and sounds of the chase and see how the magic wizard/scientist/film director works with our Hero to formulate a cunning plan and free our Heroine! All this whilst our compare gives the audience an unforgetable account of our the story of Good Vs. Evil in a way only the announcer at the cinema can! This fun and educational show is aimed at Primary 6 to Early High School ages. It introduces the audience to how music is such an important part of films today, whilst making sure the pupils are an integral part of the show too!
Although these are the most popular packages with most schools, Pure Brass are always happy to tailor our shows to suit specific requests (i.e. Class Projects).
